Peter L. Acton named Vice President and General Manager
Peter L. Acton has joined Arboris, LLC as Vice President and General Manager. Since the beginning of 2007, Peter has filled the position of Director, Commercial Development at Arboris on a contract basis. Formerly, Peter was President of Acton Management and Consulting where he worked with financial investors and private equity groups in the pine chemical and related fields. Between 1990 and 1999, Peter was Vice President and General Manager of Union Camp Corporation, Chemical Products Division. Following the merger between Union Camp and International Paper, he held the position of General Manager at Arizona Chemical. As part of his business scope in these positions, Peter oversaw the development of sterol projects first at Union Camp and then at Arizona Chemical.
In his new position, Peter will report to Arboris’ President, Thomas F. Härting, and will chair the Management Council. In addition to Peter, the Management Council includes Jeanne Anderson (CFO and Director of Finance and Administration), Manuel Canales (Senior Vice President) and Ray Driver (Counsel and Corporate Secretary). Reporting to Peter will be Jeanne Anderson, Giovanni Crescenzi (Acting Director of Operations), and Sergio Maldonado (Quality and Technology Manager).
Arboris, LLC receives awards for Outstanding Safety RecordArboris, LLC received two awards from the international Pine Chemicals Association for its safety performance at its Savannah, GA, sterol plant. During its Annual Meeting May 3-5, 2006, the Pine Chemicals Association honored Arboris with the Association’s Best Overall Safety Record Award and the Most Improved Safety Award.
“Winning both of the PCA’s safety awards is great news for all of us at Arboris,” Mat Peabody, Arboris’ Vice President and General Manager said. “Our employees know that our company puts safety first, and it is the employees’ dedication to having a safe workplace that has resulted in our being recognized outside of our company for outstanding safety performance.”
The company recently held a special event to celebrate the awards with employees.
Arboris is the world’s leading producer of sterols, which are used primarily in heart-healthy food products. Sterols are proven to have cholesterol-reducing properties.
Incorporated in Delaware in July 2001, Arboris built a grass roots sterols plant in Savannah, Georgia and began operations in 2004.
World's largest producer of sterols announces addition of Newark, Ohio facility
Arboris, LLC, recently announced that it entered into an agreement with Organic Technologies to lease Organic's Newark, Ohio Plant and assume full management of the plant, its operations and its personnel. Arboris committed to a smooth transition for the Newark plant employees and Arboris assumed responsibility for the plant and its employees on July 1, 2006.
On July 5, Arboris representatives commemorated the transition during a special lunch with employees and their families. Arboris officially announced its presence in the Newark community by hosting a breakfast at the plant site for elected officials and business leaders.
Arboris is the world's leading producer of sterols, natural compounds extracted from pine pitch and or derived from vegetable oils and are used primarily in heart-healthy food products. Sterols have been proven to have cholesterol-reducing properties. The sterols are also used as pharmaceutical intermediates to produce a variety of drugs, including synthetic estrogen for hormone replacement therapy and corticosteroids for the treatment of arthritis. There are several other new products for different applications currently under development.
Arboris and Organic Technologies have mutually benefited from a positive relationship prior to the July announcement. Organic Technologies has been purifying and finishing Arboris sterols at its Newark plant under contract since the third quarter of 2003. The Newark plant will continue to purify and finish Arboris sterols with Arboris in charge of the management and operation of the plant, and with the previous Organic Technologies employees now being part of the Arboris organization as part of the new agreement recently announced.
